ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY, ROBB & ROBB

When Brittany Sanders Robb got married to Andrew C. Robb, her parents-in-law didn’t lose a son so much as gain an attorney.
Brittany and her husband are the most recent additions to the Kansas City law firm of Robb & Robb. Helmed by Gary and Anita Robb, it is among the most powerful personal injury law firms in the country in aviation law, recovering hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of victims of airplane and helicopter crashes.
A 2017 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, Brittany clerked for Judge Duane Benton of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and worked for Debevoise & Plimpton in New York before she and Andrew joined Robb & Robb in 2020.
Her cases include a record-setting $100 million settlement earlier this year on behalf of an English tourist killed as a result of a helicopter crash in the Grand Canyon.
What is the best part of your practice?
Being part of families’ fights for justice in the face of tragedy is an honor and privilege that I will never take for granted. Working on behalf of our wonderful clients is truly the best part of being an attorney, and it motivates me to do all I can to help them. People come to us after the most traumatic and tragic event of their lives. Through our legal justice system, we are able to make meaningful change in their lives personally, and in the world, generally. Our clients know that not only do we want to help them seek justice for their loved one, but we also want to make the world a better, safer place.
The fact that I get to do this meaningful work alongside my husband and my in-laws is the cherry on top. I am extremely lucky to be working with family every day. It’s very joyful, and I don’t take it for granted.
What is the best career advice you have received?
I have benefitted from so many wonderful mentors over the years, and I’m lucky enough to get to learn and work alongside Gary and Anita every day. The best advice in life and career is something my mom instilled in me from an early age and that Gary and Anita have made the touchstone of our law practice — affirmative honesty. Not only do we as attorneys have an ethical obligation to conduct ourselves with honesty and integrity, but it is the best and only way to serve our clients.
What is your favorite thing to do away from work?
We have a Friday tradition of having dinner with my mom, Andrew’s parents, and our son, Theo. It is a great way to end the week with a good meal and family.
And I can’t forget about the dog. When it is not below zero outside, we try to go on a walk every night after work with Theo and our dog, Fritz.
What is your biggest accomplishment this year?
We recently settled a case arising out of a helicopter crash in the Grand Canyon that killed our clients’ only son, Jonathan, who was on his honeymoon at the time. The case was ongoing for six years and had over 80 depositions, including 22 expert witnesses. Jonathan had no broken bones, but died from burn injuries he suffered as a result of the helicopter not having a crash-resistant fuel system. This technology has been available for decades and should have been on this helicopter. After such a long fight for justice on behalf of this family, it was a great way to start the year.
What has been your favorite moment as an attorney?
There have been many highlights, but I’d have to say a common theme to my favorite moments is the interaction with our clients, especially when we are with them in those moments where they receive justice for themselves or their loved ones. To witness their strength and courage throughout litigation and then share that moment of closure with them is very special.
